The Slendier story


When Erica Hughes discovered the incredible fat-stripping effects of the Slendier range, she wanted to shout it to the world. So that’s exactly what she did. The corporate executive quit her job, took the reins of the Australian company and introduced the wonder food to more than 20 countries.

“The first thing we noticed was that people who ate Slendier as a replacement for rice and pasta lost weight and kept it off, without feeling hungry or like they were missing out,” says Erica.

Slendier range is a great alternative to traditional wheat pasta, rice and noodles. The range is very easy to incorporate into your current lifestyle and eating plan.

Slendier range is made from a vegetable called Konjac. Food made from Konjac are low calorie and low carbohydrates. The soluble fibre known as Glucomannan is found in the Konjac vegetable.

What is Konjac?

The Konjac plant is a well known vegetable in Asian countries, widely grown in China, Japan, India and Korea.

What is Glucomannan?

Glucomannan is a soluble dietary fibre is derived from the Konjac roots. Glucomannan is a water-soluble polysaccharide which is a dietary fibre that makes you feel fuller for longer and may assist in weight management. Soluble fibre aids the digestive system and may be beneficial for preventing constipation. Soluble fibre can be found in fruits, vegetables, oat bran, barley, nuts, seeds, beans, lentils and peas.

How does the taste of Slendier range compare to regular wheat pasta and noodles?

As the range is made from a root vegetable called Konjac, it is very different to your traditional pasta, noodles and rice. What is the texture of Slendier pasta and noodles?

Slendier has a different consistency than regular pasta, noodles and rice. The texture is al-dente, the colour is translucent and whiter than your regular pasta, noodles or rice.

The Slendier range also retains its texture; as they are pre-cooked. Preparation only takes 1 minute. All you need to do is rinse and you’re ready to go. It will not turn “gluggy or “stodgy” like regular wheat pasta, noodles or rice which generally occurs if you overcook them.

Are Slendier products Gluten Free?

Yes, Slendier is gluten free. This means that all our products are tested and have the following Codex standards to Gluten:

  • Gluten levels < 20ppm (considered suitable as per the Codex standard for gluten)
  • Subject to laboratory testing every 12 months and random annual audit testing independently approved.
  • Supporting those following a gluten free diet.

What is the Calcium Hydroxide? Is this safe to consume?

Calcium Hydroxide is an approved food additive used in our products. It is commonly used in Konjac products and in the food industry as a low toxicity firming agent. Slendier products contain only 0.15% of Calcium Hydroxide. In Australian food regulation, Calcium Hydroxide for food is additive No. 526 which can also be described as “Mineral salt”. Is Slendier Fructose Free

Slendier products have very low levels of fructose. In fact it is less than 0.2 grams per 100g. This makes Slendier a great substitute for many grain based alternatives in a low FODMAP diet.

How do I prepare Slendier?

We suggest that you prepare the whole pack as per instructions on the pack. We recommend a serving of 125g (half of the pack) per person per meal.

Can I freeze the Slendier range?

The Slendier range has high water content. The range is made from Konjac vegetable flour which has an enormous swelling capacity with water. This means that it will freeze easily, but when the ice crystals melt during thawing, you’re left with soggy limp and inedible food.

How can Slendier help with weight management?

The fact that Slendier is significantly lower in calories and carbohydrates compared to regular wheat pasta, rice and noodles it is a fantastic start to eating healthy and limiting your calorie and carbohydrate intake.

Why do my Konjac Noodles have brown spots on them?

These brown spots are natural parts of the Konjac bark. They are completely safe to consume and do not change the taste or texture of the noodle.
