It’s no secret that brekkie is the most important meal of the day. It kicks off your metabolism and gives you the hit of energy you need to start the day right. Having a healthy, regular breakfast is an essential part of a balanced diet, and although it can take some getting used to, training your body to get into that routine can really pay off.

So, having brekkie every morning is a great idea in theory, but how to put this into practise? Our busy, modern-day schedules can make sticking to a routine a challenge, but prepping your breakfast the night before, or even for the week, is a great way to make sure you get ahead and have a good breakfast no matter what. Here are our top tips for getting started:

Give yourself time

We are all super busy running around achieving great things (or just binge-watching that great new series on Netflix!!), but making time for yourself and your health is where all of this begins. Set aside a particular time during the week you know you’ll be able to do your shop and prepare breakfast. If you’re planning to prep the night before, try to do it at a specific time, like just before you get ready for bed, and you’ll be much more likely to build it into your routine.

Find recipes that work around your lifestyle, and taste good!

Whether you’d like something to sweeten your start to the day, or you can’t get past good, old-fashioned bacon and eggs, these recipe suggestions on our website are all perfect for a low GI, pre-prepped breakfast:

• Slendier Bacon and Egg muffins
• Matcha Rice and Slendier pudding
• Breakfast Porridge
• Spaghetti Frittata
• Seed and Oat bread (add links to recipes on website)

Avoid re-inventing the wheel

Getting a new recipe into your routine doesn’t need to be complicated or expensive. If you’re having to buy lots of ingredients you wouldn’t usually, the chances are you’ll find your new initiative much harder to stick to. Think about what you already enjoy for breakfast as a starting point and experiment with a few simple recipes.

Remember treat day!

When you’ve worked so hard to make sure your breakfasts are ready to go, don’t forget to treat yourself to a delicious weekend brunch and congratulate yourself for all that hard work! A healthy diet is all about balance and moderation, so treats are a must.

Phew, so that’s how we’d make breakfast a top priority. You’re welcome. The most important thing is to enjoy what you’re eating and make breakfast a pleasure, not a chore!
